St. Peter Damian: In Laudibus (51)

At Lauds

1.

Just as shining dawn

Goes along to high heaven,

Splendid as the sun Mary,

Just as the moon most beautiful.

2.

Queen of the world today

Ascends the throne of glory

Having given birth to that son,

Who precedes the bringer of light.

3.

Having been taken up above the angels

She exceeds even the archangels.

One woman transcends

All the merits of the saints.

4.

Whom she has nourished in her womb,

Whom she has placed in a manger,

Now in glory she sees

The king over all fathers.

5.

For us, ask earnestly of your son,

Virgin of virgins,

Through whom he receives us,

So that he offers his to us.

6.

May there be praise to you most high…
