Hymn at Nocturnes
1.
The common people with the angels
Applaud with joyful celebration:
Praise runs to meet the apostle
Of the birth of the Lord.
2.
This one (he) is beloved before others
Held fast in the house of the teacher
On account of the merit of his virginity
A private statute (privilege) of love.
3.
He drank a flowing of wisdom
from the breast of Christ;
From where it irrigates the fields of the heart
And thunders the word of the father.
4.
Also having been placed in the cross
The Lord entrusted to his mother;
The mother became the virgin of virgins,
Who in turn nourished the son.
5.
With bowing hearts, O one who nourishes,
Councillor of heaven, we ask:
Give the crowd to understand the word
The whom you teach to believe the word.
6.
Let there be praise to the unborn father…
