St. Peter Damian: Hymnus in Ascensa Domini (25) In Laudibus

1.

May the bright peaks of the heavens

Admire the happy lights,

Which the king of glory enters

With the triumph of victory.

2.

He who will be dying had come,

With death having been killed, returns

The victor to the stars

Having dragged off the noble booty of hell.

3.

Leaning so that he was rising up,

Having been sold so that he might be bought back (redeemed),

Wandering in despised pastures

He carries back the sheep on his shoulders.

4.

Now, flesh, despise the mud,

Proceed, earth, to heaven,

For the road where the head is

Resolved to go is scattered with limbs,

5.

Jesus, angelic splendor,

Sweetness, longing,

Make us also to encompass you

We seek with all our organs.

6.

Grant us to live in you,

Direct our heart to you;

Let your love enter

Our breasts forever.

Amen.
